ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Sharp shooting and superb defense led the Augustana women's basketball team to a 95-82 win over Michigan Tech Friday afternoon at the Concordia-St. Paul Thanksgiving Classic.
The Vikings improve to 4-0 on the season while the Huskies drop their first game of the season and fall to 5-1.
Four Vikings posted 10 or more points for the Vikings including senior
Paige Peterson and Junior center
Shelby Selland who each scored 18 points to lead the way for Augustana. Selland, the Letcher, S.D. native scored 9 of Augustana's first 13 points. Selland scored her 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
To go along with her 18 points, Peterson snagged six rebounds and dished out one assist. She scored her 18 on 8-of-11 shooting and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
Presley O'Farrell poured in 16 points and hauled in six rebounds and added three assists.
Lynsey Prosser scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
As a team, the Vikings shot 52 percent from the field and connected on seven 3-pointers. Augustana also hit 22 free throws at a 91 percent clip.
The Huskies shot 50 percent from the field helped by Brenna Heise's game-high 37 points, which is a record for the most points scored in the Thanksgiving classic. Each team had nine turnovers.
Augustana returns to action Saturday, Nov. 25 and plays Lake Superior State in the final day of the Concordia-St. Paul Thanksgiving Classic.
