ST. PAUL, Minn. – A fast start and a balanced offensive attack paved the way for the Augustana women's basketball team to remain perfect on the season with a 72-50 win at Concordia-St. Paul on Friday night.
Â
The Vikings improve to 6-0 on the season overall and to 2-0 in NSIC play, while the host Golden Bears fall to 2-4 overall and to 0-1 in the conference.
Â
Down 3-2 early in the first quarter, the Vikings went on an 11-0 run to grab a 13-3 lead, and even though the Golden Bears quickly cut the lead back to five points, Augustana got it back to 18-8 and built it to as many as 16 at 34-18 before taking a 34-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Â
The Golden Bears came out hot in the second half, and used a 13-3 run to cut the lead to 37-33, drawing a timeout from the Augustana bench with 7 minutes, 17 second left on the third quarter clock.
Â
Whatever head coach
Dave Krauth said during the timeout worked, as the Vikings scored the first 10 points after the break to get the lead back to 14 points at 47-33 with 5:39 left in the frame, a lead that would reach 58-40 after three quarters.
Â
Augustana added a 9-0 run in the fourth to push the lead to 23 points, and led by as many as 26 points down the stretch.
Â
Nine different Vikings scored in the game, but
Presley O'Farrell and
Naomi Rust set the pace with 15 points each, with Presley adding 5 rebounds and a pair of assists, and Rust 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Logan O'Farrell added 10 points in the win, while
Lynsey Prosser scored 6 points to go with her team-high 8 rebounds.
Â
The Vikings look to stay perfect on Saturday, when they travel to Mankato, Minnesota, to take on Minnesota State at 4 p.m.
