KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Monday rosters for the 2017
Reese's® Division II College All-Star game, which will be played as part of the 2017 NCAA® Division II Men's Basketball Championship. Former Augustana student-athlete, coach and athletic director, Bill Gross, will coach the West All-Star team against former coach and NSIC Commissioner, Butch Raymond.
The
Reese's Division II College All-Star game will be played on Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m. (CT) at the NCAA Division II Elite Eight at the Sanford Pentagon. The teams are composed of two senior student-athletes from each of the eight regions in Division II and five senior at-large selections.
Gross spent 35 years at Augustana, including 28 years as athletic director, helping Augustana win 40 conference championships, including 17 in the North Central Conference and 23 as members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Gross coached the men's basketball team for nine seasons, posting a 154-103 record, winning the North Central Conference in 1988-89.
A 1973 graduate of Augustana, Gross was a four-year letterwinner and three-time All-NCC selection. He is one of just two players in program history with 1,000-plus career points and 1,000-plus rebounds. Gross ranks 11th all-time having scored 1,628 points and second with 1,030 rebounds.
Raymond had a legendary career in the NCC and Northern Sun Intercollegiate conferences. He began his coaching career at Augsburg College before moving on to St. Cloud State. He had significant success at St. Cloud and led his teams to consecutive NCC titles in 1986, 1987 and 1988. Raymond also served at Southwest Minnesota State as director of athletics before being named as the fourth commissioner of the NSIC in 2004. He guided the conference expansion from an eight-team league to a 16-team super conference in NCAA Division II. Raymond retired in 2014.
