SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana women's soccer team (0-0-1, 0-0-1 NSIC) started off the 2017 season with a 1-1 tie against NSIC foe Wayne State (0-0-1, 0-0-1 NSIC).

The Vikings tied the Wildcats for the second straight season and move to 8-3-3 all-time against the Wildcats. It was the first opening match tie for Augustana since they tied CSU Pueblo to open the 2008 season.

The first half was scoreless, but the Vikings had their chances. Augustana outshot the Wildcats in the first half 11-6.

Wayne State struck first in the match with a goal by Christina Stasi in the 55th minute. Stasi took a pass from Carleigh Wilson just inside the six-yard box and the shot careened off of Taylor Machacek's outstretched hands.

The Vikings would answer later in the period with a goal by Samantha Tymkowicz in the 80th minute. Tymkowicz was slashing in from the backside of the six-yard box and tapped in a perfectly placed cross from Claire Dahm.

In overtime, the Vikings had their chances but couldn't grab a game winning goal. Augustana outshot the Wildcats, 6-2 in the two overtime periods.

For the match, the Vikings outshot the Wildcats 29-13 and 10-5 with shots on goal. Tymkowicz led the Vikings with six shots attempted.

In the net, Machacek recorded four saves for Augustana.

Next up for the Vikings will be a matchup against No. 5 Central Missouri at Morstad Field on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. The Jennies opened the season with a 4-0 win over SW Oklahoma State on Thursday afternoon.
