MINOT, N.D. - The Augustana soccer team (1-1-2) picked up their first win of the season on a
Rebekah Thoresen goal in second overtime.
The Vikings picked up their first win of the season in their third overtime match on the season. Augustana hasn't lost an overtime match in its last 15 overtime matches (8-0-7) and haven't lost since Oct. 18, 2013 when they fell at Minot State, 2-1.
Augustana has recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since last season when the shutout Sioux Falls (1-0) on Oct. 30, 2016 and Minnesota Duluth (1-0) on Nov. 2, 2016.
Emporia State outshot Augustana 11-8 in regulation, but the Vikings turned it up in overtime. In overtime, the Vikings outshot the Hornets 7-1 including Thoresen's game deciding goal in the 103rd minute of the second overtime.
Taylor Machacek had five saves in net for the Vikings in her second consecutive shutout and her 19th career shutout.
Thoresen had two shots, both on goal, and her second career goal to lead Augustana offensively.
Grace Behm recorded an assist and had two shots on the afternoon.
Augustana returns home for a pair of NSIC matches next weekend. The Vikings open the weekend against U-Mary on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Morstad Field. Augustana concludes the weekend against Minot State on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.
