SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana soccer team (2-1-2, 1-0-1 NSIC) defeated U-Mary (3-1-0, 1-1-0 NSIC), 1-0, on Saturday to post their second straight win and their third consecutive shutout.
The Vikings were in attack mode early and often in the first half against the Marauders and came away with a goal in the 14th minute.
Hannah Keirstead took a
Mackenzie Main cross and buried it in the back of the net giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
The Keirstead goal all the Vikings would need as the defense took care of the rest. The last time Augustana recorded three straight shutouts was last season on Sept. 23 (Upper Iowa, 3-0), Sept. 25 (Winona State, 1-0) and Oct. 1 (MSU Moorhead, 4-0).
The Vikings outshot the Marauders 22-8 with 10 shots on goal compared to three by U-Mary.
Taylor Machacek notched three saves and recorded her 20th career shutout to extend her Augustana school record.
Samantha Tymkowicz led Augustana with five shots and
Ellie Knowles notched four shots.
The Vikings return to action tomorrow, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at Morstad Field against Minot State.
