Soccer Notches Fourth Straight Shutout with Win Over Minot State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana soccer team (3-1-2, 2-0-1 NSIC) swept the NSIC North Dakota schools on the weekend with a 1-0 win over Minot State (2-3-1, 1-2-0 NSIC) on Sunday at Morstad Field.

Augustana posted its fourth consecutive shutout and its third straight 1-0 victory. The four consecutive shutouts are the most since the 2015 season when they also posted four straight shutouts. The school record for most consecutive shutouts is five which happened in 2008 and 2014.

Taylor Machacek and her defense held strong on Sunday and continuously thwarted the Minot State offense. The Beavers had the most shots (18) and shots on goal (9) against the Vikings during their shutout streak.

Augustana received its lone goal just before halftime when Claire Dahm took a Katie Ortgies pass and fired it passed the oncoming Minot State goalkeeper. Dahm's goal came in the 43rd minute and was her first goal of the season.

Machacek was solid in the goal again for the Vikings, recording a season-high nine saves. Machacek notched her 21st career shutout and her four shutouts on the year leads the NSIC.

Augustana outshot Minot State 18-15 and both teams recorded nine shots on goal. The Vikings held the corner kick advantage, 8-2.

The Vikings return to action on Friday, Sept. 22 to take on Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa at 3 p.m.. Augustana returns home to wrap up the weekend against Winona State on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at Morstad Field.
