ABERDEEN, S.D. -- After the sun had set on the Athletic and Recreations Field in Aberdeen, Augustana (8-3-2, 7-2-1 NSIC) used a balanced first half attack to defeat Northern State (6-6-1, 4-5-1 NSIC) 1-0. Midfielder
Jensen Froehlich netted the Vikings one and only goal with just seconds left in the first half. Between the posts,
Claudia Pueschner played all 90 minutes collecting seven saves off of 15 shots. The shutout marks her 7th of the season.
"The key word is team effort in this win," head coach
Brandon Barkus said, "we played a lot of girls and they brought really good energy."
Augustana broke through on the scoreboard in the 44th minute. Calm and poised Froehlich originated the play off of a rebound from Wolves goalie Jessica Otto and put it in the back of the net with just seven seconds left before the intermission.
Froehlich netted her first goal of the season and now has three in her career. The junior from Sioux City, Iowa has taken 14 shots this season and seven on goal.
The blue and gold back line stood firm allowing only seven shots to get to redshirt goalie Pueschner, but for the seventh time this season she did not allow any to find their way past her. Pueschner is in first place in the conference in saves with 78.
The Vikings return to the field on Sunday at MSU Moorhead at 1 p.m. to take on the Dragons. Fans can follow the game at goaugie.com/live.
