St. Paul, Minn. -- Playing in their final regular season game of the year, the Augustana women's soccer team used a little more late-game magic, getting an overtime goal from
Rebekah Thoresen for a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Concordia-St. Paul. With the win, the Vikings (11-4-3, 10-3-2 NSIC) earned the No. 3 seed in the NSIC playoffs and will open play on Wednesday at 3 p.m. vs. Winona State at Morstad Field.
CSP drops to  (10-5-3, 7-5-3 NSIC) on the year.
"After a slow first half both teams flipped the switch in the second half and got more aggressive," head coach
Brandon Barkus said, "we were fortunate to have a strong senior leader in
Rebekah Thoresen who was able to take an opportunity and finish in the final minutes of overtime. I'm really happy we won this game to give us some momentum going into the postseason."
After a scoreless first half, the Vikings found an opening early in the second. Off a rebound from the Golden Bears goalie Emily Nelson, Freshman
Alexis Legg stayed with the play and buried her 9th goal of the season. The Iowa native leads the Vikings in goals and points and sits tied for fourth in the NSIC for goals scored.
Late in the second half, Jade Weller scored for CSP in the 82nd minute to tie the game and eventually force overtime. After a scoreless first extra period, the Vikings offense came to life in the 2nd. Senior
Rebekah Thoresen found the back of the net in the 105th minute sealing the road victory for the Vikings her fourth goal of the season.
The Augustana's defensive back line stood strong allowing only three shots to get to
Claudia Pueschner. The redshirt freshman played all 90 minutes and made two saves on the three shots faced.
The Vikings will begin postseason play Wednesday when they host Winona state in an NSIC quarterfinal at Morstad Field at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the game at
