Vikings Set to Open Postseason vs. Winona State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's soccer team will host Winona State in the NSIC quarterfinals on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Morstad Field. The Vikings finished their regular season 11-4-3, the Warriors finished 8-7-1. Fans not able to be in attendance of Wednesday's game can watch live video at GoAugie.com/live.

Most recently, the Vikings ended the regular season with a 2-1 double-overtime victory against Concordia-St. Paul. Senior Rebekah Thoresen found the found the back of the net in the 105th minute sealing the road victory and earning the Vikings the No. 3 seed.

The Vikings are looking forward to the rematch on Wednesday. "They are a very strong team and Coach Kellogg has them well organized," Said Brandon Barkus, "I am confident our team will be ready and hungry offensively; it's going to be a great first round game." 

Coming into Wednesday's game the Vikings sit third in the conference in goals scored this conference season, with 25. Individually, the Vikings are led by Alexis Legg who has 9 goals and 19 points. Thoresen is second on the team with four goals and nine points. Between the pipes, redshirt freshman Claudia Pueschner is having an outstanding first year. The three-time NSIC Goalkeeper of the week is 2nd in the conference with a .904 save %. Her goals against average of .645 ranks 3rd in the NSIC.

This year, Augustana is 5-1-2 at Morstad Field, and will hope to benefit from playing the opening round of the postseason at home.

Winona State comes into Wednesday's game with 8-7-1 record. In the regular season, the Vikings and the Warriors battled through 90 minutes of regulation but came up short against Winona State, falling 2-1 in overtime.

The Warriors are led by Abby Bohanski with 5 goals. In net, Jourdan Valkner has allowed 14 goals and made 60 saves.
