Augustana Stays Put In Central Region Rankings

For the Third Straight Week Augustana Remains at No.7

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- With the postseason starting Wednesday, the third installment NCAA DII Women's Soccer Regional Rankings have been released and the Augustana Vikings remain no. 7 in the central region for the third straight week. According to the NSIC, the top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA region tournament on Nov. 9 & 11 and Nov. 16 & 18. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the MIAA, GAC and NSIC postseason tournaments, with the remaining five spots awarded on an at-large basis.

Overall, the NSIC has four of the top ten teams in the central region including the top-ranked team, Bemidji State. The Beavers remains number one this week, Minnesota State fell to fourth, and Minot State moved up a spot to ninth.

Most recently, the Vikings (11-4-3, 10-3-2 NSIC) closed out their regular season with a weekend split. On Friday, the Vikings battled but came up short to No. 21 Minnesota State 2-0. On Sunday, Augustana bounced back as Senior Rebekah Thoresen found the back of the net in the 105th minute sealing a 2-1 double-overtime win for the Vikings.

Wednesday, Augustana will start the playoffs when the team returns home to Morstad Field to take on the Warriors of Winona State in the NSIC quarterfinals. This year, the Vikings are 5-2-1 while playing at home.
