SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – This weekend, the Augustana women's soccer team will hit the road to take on the Winona State Warriors and the Upper Iowa Peacocks. The Vikings are coming off of a split this past weekend losing to UMD (1-0) and beating SCSU (1-0). Scouting Augustana:
The Vikings six-game winning streak was snapped on Friday in a close match against Minnesota Duluth, but Augustana bounced back on Sunday, closing out the weekend with a 1-0 win over St. Cloud State. With the win, the Vikings have now won seven of their last eight games, and improved to 7-2-1 (6-1-0 NSIC). Midway through the season, Augustana stands in second place in the Northern Sun with 18 conference points. At 10-0, No. 6 Bemidji State is sitting first with 21 points. Offensively, Freshman
Alexis Legg is leading the way for the Vikings,having buried a team-high eight goals this season, which is second in the NSIC. In addition, both
Grace Behm and
Peyton Stenzel stand top-20 in the league in shots per game with more than 2.0. Behind a strong defense the Vikings have only allowed six goals in 10 games, including five shutouts. Between the pipes,
Claudia Pueschner's .910 save percentage is second in the NSIC.
Scouting Winona State:
Winona State University (2-5-1, 2-4-1 NSIC) is coming off of a season-high four goals last Sunday as the Warriors concluded their road trip with a shutout win at MSU Moorhead (Score?). Melissa Greco netted her second goal of the year in the first half as WSU went on to add three more second-half goals in the 4-0 victory. The Warriors are led by Georgette Topalis with two goals, giving her four points.
Scouting Upper Iowa:
Upper Iowa is coming off of a loss 2-1 loss against Northern State University. The defeat marked the fifth time the Peacocks have lost by only one goal this season, and moved Upper Iowa to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in NSIC play. The Peacocks are led by Katie Samuels with two goals, tallying her four points on the season.
