WINONA, MINN. -- With overcast and cloudy skies in Southern Minnesota, the Augustana soccer team battled through 90 minutes of regulation but came up short against Winona State, falling 2-1 in overtime. Less than three minutes into the extra session, it was Warrior senior Addie Royer scoring her first career goal and allowing Winona State to celebrate on the turf of Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium. The loss drops the Vikings to 7-3-1 (6-2-0 NSIC) on the year.
The Vikings did get off to a great start Friday afternoon. An early goal by 
Morgan Keirstead put Augustana on the board in the 10th minute. The freshman beat the keeper from five yards out, scoring just under the post. 
Peyton Stenzel played a great ball to pick up the assist on the goal, her third of the season. Overall, the Vikings outshot the Warriors, 9-8 in the first half.
Five minutes had run off the clock in the second half when the Warriors answered in the 50th minute as Melissa Greco buried a free-kick In the box. The Vikings offense came out hot in the second half and tried to push the pace before regulation time ended, but the Warriors goalkeeper hung tough between the posts. Augustana's keeper, 
Claudia Pueschner was even more impressive, finishing with 10 saves. In total, the redshirt freshman faced 18 shots.
This is the Vikings second loss of the year in overtime and the first in conference play. In 2018, their overtime record is 3-2-1 .
The Vikings will now hit the road as they continue NSIC competition in Fayette, Iowa against the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
