SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With a 4-1 win in the opening-round of the NSIC tournament, the No. 3 seed Augustana women's soccer team (12-4-3) is set to take on its next challenge in the postseason. The Vikings will now head to Mankato where they'll matchup with No. 2 seed Minnesota State (16-2-1) on Friday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. in the NSIC semifinals.
The other NSIC semifinal match will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday in Mankato as No. 4 seed Minot State (12-4-3) takes on No. 8 seed U-Mary (8-7-3). The winners of each semifinal match will advance to the NSIC finals on Sunday, Nov. 4 in Mankato.
The Vikings enter the match following a 3rd place finish in the NSIC regular-season, and an opening-round quarterfinal win Wednesday. Augustana is led by
Alexis Legg with 10 goals and
Claudia Pueschner in net with a .905 save percentage.
Rebekah Thoresen was named Defensive Player of the Year, Legg was named Freshman of the Year, and five others also earned all-conference honors.
Scouting Minnesota State:
Minnesota State is 16-2-1 and took care of business in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament with a 4-0 shutout over Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday. The Mavericks out shot the Golden Bears 17-7 (11-3 on goal) and held a corner kick advantage of 4-0. Â
The Minnesota State women's soccer team has remained fourth in the latest edition of the NCAA Central Region rankings.
Leading the way for the Mavericks going into postseason is Dakota Wendall. She leads the team with 14 goals and 34 points thus far. The Mavericks are on a five game win streak with their last loss coming from a double-overtime matchup against No. 3 Bemidji State 3-2, on Oct. 14th.
A year ago, MSU defeated Augustana 2-0 in the NSIC Championship game.
