St. Paul, Minn.- Entering their final weekend of the season, the Augustana Volleyball team traveled to St. Paul looking for an upset victory over No. 6 Concordia-St. Paul. Ultimately, the Golden Bears proved too much for the Vikings as Augustana fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-20). The loss drops Augustana to 10-17 (5-14 NSIC) on the year and brings CSP to 22-6 (16-3 NSIC).
In the first set, Concordia-St. Paul jumped 10-4 forcing an Augustana timeout. A kill from
Abby Benson brought the Vikings within three, and then moments later back-to-back kills from
Izzy Sommers made the score 20-19 CSP. However, the Golden Bears used a late rally and outlasted the Vikings for a 25-20 victory.
Set two was close early as
Avery Thorson tied the score at 5 on a kill. After that, it was all Golden Bears as they finished on a 20-7 run winning 25-12.
Set three was competitive early as the Vikings trailed 10-9 after a kill from
Courtney Place. Concordia pulled ahead to 17-10 lead midway through the set, and although Augustana battled, they could not find a victory in the third and final set falling 25-20.
The Augustana hit .227 to Concordia's .384. The Golden Bears 10 service aces to the Vikings one had a big impact on the match.
Leading the way the Vikings was
Courtney Place with 11 kills,
Hanna Justesen with 13 digs, and
Avery Thorson with 36 assists.
Concordia-St. Paul was led by Brooklyn Lewis 11 kills and Hope Schiller with 10 digs.
The Vikings wrap up their season on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Minnesota State.
