The Vikings Roll Past Winona State, 78-67

Augustana tabs four double-digit scorers

WINONA, MINN. -- Following a tremendous start in the 1st quarter, the Augustana women's basketball team ran past Winona State ( 78-67) on Friday night. The win moves Augustana to 9-1 (2-0 NSIC) and drops the Warriors to 3-3 (1-1 NSIC). The Viking now travel to Fayette, Ia. to take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Leading in the Vikings in their win over Winona State was Selland, she finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She went 6-10 from the field and 5-6 from beyond the arc. Rabb finished the game with 11 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes of actions. The Prosser racked up 17 points and five rebounds, and Abby Hora had 13 points and two rebounds in 28 minutes of action.

The nine-point win over the Warriors was fueled by another great start  for the Vikings. In the first ten minutes of action on the road, the Vikings jumped out to a quick 20-6 lead. The first bucket of the game was a three ball from Shelby Selland off of an assist from Lynsey Prosser. Selland netted another three pointer in the opening quarter and then finished out the first with a jumper in the paint.

The second quarter was no different then the first as Prosser opened the 2nd by swishing home  a three pointer off of an assist from Selland. By halftime the Vikings had a 18 point lead, thanks to an impressive first half of shooting. Augustana finished the half shooting 48.5 percent from the field (16-33) and an equally impressive 42.9 percent from three point land.

Vishe Rabb' found herself going 3 of 5 from the field and finished with nine first half points.

Coming out of the locker room,  Augustana started the second half of action with a steal from Prosser, the Vikings finished the game with six steals which lead to 10 points.

Winona State had the first points in the third quarter off a three pointer from Allie Pickrain. But, that was enough to get the Vikings going again. Augustana went on to drop 25 points in the frame, which is the most Augustana scored in a quarter.The Vikings only scored 10 fourth quarter points to the Warriors 20, but the Vikings first three quarters was enough to seal the Vikings second conference win and their fourth victory in a row.

The Vikings finished the game with 42 rebounds, 18 assists, and shot an impressive 9-10 from the charity stripe.

The Vikings now head to Iowa to take on the Peacocks at 3:30 on Saturday from Fayette, Iowa.
