ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Augustana softball team closed out the Kelly Laas Memorial Softball Invite with a pair of run-rule shortened games against Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday night in the Husky Dome, downing the Lopers 15-4 and 8-0, both in five innings.
The two wins cap a perfect weekend for the Vikings, who return home with a 7-4 record, while UNK falls to 3-10.
Nine different Vikings recorded a hit in the first game, six of which got more than one, as Augie pounded out 17 in the game, and scored five runs in both the first and second innings, adding three in the third and two in the fourth.
Both of Kiley Rome's hits went for extra bases, as she finished with a double and a home run, knocking in five runs in the process.
Ashley Mickschl pitched the first three innings to secure the win in the circle, while
Amber Elliott gave up just one hit over the final two innings in relief.
Shannon Petersen went a perfect 3 for 3 in the second game, with six RBI and three runs scored, thanks largely to her two home runs.
Lexy Pederson got the start and pitched three one-hit innings to earn the win, which boosts her record to 4-0 on the season.
The Vikings take a week off before returning to action on March 10, in Clermont, Fla., where they play eight games in the PFX Spring Games.
