Women’s Basketball Rolls Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, MINN. -- Winners of seven in a row and 13 of their last 15 true road games, the No. 7 Augustana women's basketball team continues to shine during the 2017-18 season as the Vikings controlled the Bemidji State Beavers from start to finish and paved their way to a 87-50 victory Saturday night inside BSU Gymnasium.

Augustana is now 21-1 overall and 17-1 in the NSIC and has a three game lead over Wayne State for the top spot in the NSIC South division. Head coach Dave Krauth notched his 598th victory with the Vikings, marking him two wins shy of the 600 win milestone.

Leading 20-12 after the first quarter, Augie stormed out to a 12-1 run to start the second, building a 34-13 advantage over Bemidji State. A Naomi Rust jumper started the run and put the Vikings up 22-12 with 9:50 to play in the first half. With 7:51 remaining in the first half, senior Paige Peterson hit a jumper to give Augustana a 26-13 lead. On the next possession, Lynsey Prosser drilled a three-pointer and sophomore forward Hana Metoxen muscled up a layup, was fouled and connected on the free-throw with 6:53 remaining in the first half to cap off the run.

Peterson, a Jamestown, N.D. native, poured in nine first-half points and finished the contest with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting in 12 minutes of action.

A Rust layup with 5:22 to play in the third quarter put Augustana up 51-28 and gave the Vikings a 23 point lead.

With 1:15 to go in the third quarter, a Metoxen three-pointer put the Vikings up 25 followed by a Logan O'Farrell three point play the old fashioned way that gave Augie a 30 point lead. The Vikings led by as many as 38 points in the game. Logan O'Farrell finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists while shooting 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Prosser poured in 10 points and four assists for the Vikings while Rust finished with nine points. Shelby Selland and Metoxen each finished with eight points. 12 different Vikings scored and 14 players saw action.

Augustana shot 49 percent from the field, compared to Bemidji State's 40 percent. The Vikings made nine 3-pointers at a 38 percent clip and forced 26 Beavers turnovers. Augie turned it over just nine times and outscored Bemidji State 40-6 in points off turnovers.

The Beavers drop to 4-18 overall and 3-15 in league play.

Augustana returns to action Friday, Feb. 9 when they host Sioux Falls at 6 p.m. inside the Sioux Falls Arena.
