CLERMONT, Fla. – A four-run second inning gave the Augustana softball team all the runs it would need on Tuesday night, but the Vikings added seven more to secure an 11-3, six inning win over Fairmont State at the PFX Spring Games.
The Vikings 12th straight win boosts their record to 13-4, while the Fighting Falcons fall to 3-9.
A pair of Fairmont State miscues allowed the Vikings to plate the four runs in the second inning that gave them a 4-0 lead, an advantage that grew to 7-0 after the Augie half of the third.
Christina Pickett smacked a two-out, bases loaded single to score both
Ashley Mickschl and
Maggie Kadrlik to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead, and then
Taylor Bross doubled home Pickett for a 7-0 score.
The Fighting Falcons got three back in the bottom of the third, but sacrifice flies by
Kylie Rome and Mickschl and a
Shannon Petersen RBI double put the Vikings back up by seven runs at 10-3.
The score remained 10-3 until the top of the sixth, when Kadrlik singled home
Christina Delzer for the eight-run margin, which held up in the bottom of the sixth.
Lexy Pederson picked up with the win to improve to 5-0 on the season. She gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits with three each in walks and strikeouts.
The Vikings close the PFX Spring Games on Wednesday with games against Millersville and Illinois-Springfield.
