EMPORIA, Kan. – The winning streak continues for the Augustana softball team, as the Vikings shutout Missouri Southern State on Saturday in Emporia, Kan., for their 17th win in-a-row.
The win boosts the Vikings record to 18-4 on the season, while the Lions fall to 11-16.
A balanced Augustana offense finished with nine hits from eight players, with
Kylie Rome leading the way with a 2 for 3 day at the plate, which included a double, a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored.
Amber Elliott made the most of her lone at-bat, knocking in two runs to open the scoring in the top of the second inning. Her single into right center field scored
Christina Pickett and
Shannon Petersen to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
Rome's homerun came in the third inning, which gave Augie a 4-0 lead, which grew to 5-0 in the fifth on a
Maggie Kadrlik RBI, then to 6-0 on a
Kendall Cornick RBI single in the sixth and finally to 7-0 later in the sixth on an
Abbie Lund RBI groundout.
Ashley Mickschl went the distance for the Vikings in the circle to improve to 6-2 on the season. She scattered four hits, with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.
The Vikings look to make it 18 straight later on Saturday, when they square-off with Northeastern State at 4 p.m.
