Softball's Winning Streak Snapped at 17

EMPORIA, Kan. – All good things must come to an end, and the Augustana softball team's 17-game winning streak ended on Saturday with a 3-0 setback to Northeastern State in Emporia, Kan.

The Vikings fall to 18-5 with the loss, while the RiverHawks improve to 16-10.

Northeastern State got the only runs it needed in the top of the first, with a two-run homerun by Paige Gann, but tacked on an insurance run in the fourth with an RBI groundout from Kaleigh Hinkle to put the RiverHawks up 3-0.

Sydney Balderrama struckout six Vikings and walked two through 6.2 innings before allowing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but still earned the win, as Gail Young came in to record the final out, and preserve the win, which snapped the Vikings longest winning streak since 2016, when they won 21 in-a-row.

Kylie Rome posted two of the Vikings five hits, with Kendall Cornick, Kaylea Schorr and Kara McDougall each finishing with one hit in the loss.

Augustana looks to start a new streak on Sunday, when the Vikings take on Central Oklahoma at 10 a.m.
