SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The nationally ranked Augustana University volleyball program is hosting a seven team, 13 match volleyball invite Friday, August 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1. The Augustana Volleyball Invitational features the No. 22 Vikings, Black Hills State, Fort Hays State, Lindenwood, U-Mary, MSU Moorhead and No. 7 Northern State.

Fort Hays State and Black Hills State begin the invitational with a 9 a.m. match on Friday morning with Augustana and Lindenwood wrapping day one up with the nightcap beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Fort Hays State and U-Mary begin the day with their match at 9 a.m. while the Vikings and the Wolves conclude the invite with a 7 p.m. start.

All matches will take place in the Elem Center of the campus of Augustana University. One court is located in the Hall Forum which can be found just inside the main entrance. The other court is in the Sanford Practice Gym, located on the second floor of the Elmen Center.

Augustana enters the invitational with a 3-1 record. Last weekend at the Eckerd Classic in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Vikings defeated seton Hill, 3-0, Eckerd, 3-2, and Charleston 3-1.

Senior outside hitter Courtney Place leads the team with 65 kills and is averaging 3.82 kills-per-set. Freshman setter Avery Thorson has racked up 177 assists, averaging 10.41 assists over 17 sets played on the young season.

​​​​​​​Izzy Sommers recorded 15 blocks last weekend, including six solo while senior Kaylea Ahrens tallied 72 digs.

Following the Augustana Invitational, the Vikings open NSIC play on the road at Southwest Minnesota State on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
