SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana soccer hosts Southwest Minnesota State and University of Sioux Falls for a pair of NSIC contests this weekend. The Vikings are coming off of a double overtime win against Wayne State in the opening weekend of NSIC play. Kickoff for Friday's game vs Southwest Minnesota State is set for 4 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday vs the University of Sioux Falls.
Scouting Augustana
The Vikings most recent win comes against Wayne State in a double-overtime thriller. Freshman
Alexis Legg scored two goals in the win. Twenty minutes after the second half began Legg scored the first goal of game for the Vikings and her third of the season. The goal came off of a rebound shot from
Morgan Keirstead and Legg slotted it home in the middle of the box six yards out. Keirstead was awarded with the assist on the goal. Legg also found the back of the net in the 101st minute of the game and one minute into the second overtime, scoring her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.
In three of the four games this season the Vikings have gone into overtime, in the overtimes the Vikings are 1-1-1, overall this season the Vikings are 2-1-1 and 1-0 in NSIC play.
Scouting Southwest Minnesota State
Southwest Minnesota State (1-2, 1-0 NSIC) is coming off of a 4-1 victory vs the University of Sioux Falls. The Mustangs opened conference play Friday night and the four goals scored is most scored in a game since beating Wayne State on Oct. 30, 2016.
Alli Miskowiec led the Mustangs with her first career hat trick scoring three of the four goals of the night. Her first goal occurred in the fourth minute of the game, unassisted as she stole the pass from the goalie and found the net from 18 yards out. Miskowiec's next two goals were both assisted by Kaylee Burkett-Behun in the 54th minute and the 58th minute. Abbey Hoisington added her first career goal in the 59th minute, assisted from Miskowiec.
The Mustangs were dominate across the board, not only out-scoring the Cougars in the second half, but the Mustang defense kept them scoreless after their first goal. Goalkeeper Jessica Craigmile played all 90 minutes and recorded 12 saves to give the Mustangs their first victory of the season.
Miskowiec and Craigmile were each named as Player of the Week by the NSIC.
Miskowiec, a forward, scored her first career hat trick and also recorded an assist in the victory vs USF.
Craigmile recorded 12 saves in the victory, which was the Mustangs first road win since the 2016 season. She made five saves in the first half and had seven more in the second half.
The Vikings lead the series history 15-4-1 and the last time the teams met was Oct. 29, 2017 and the Vikings won 3-0.
Scouting the University of Sioux Falls
The University of Sioux Falls Soccer Team (1-3-0, 0-1-0 NSIC) is coming off a loss to Missouri Western State on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars are led by McKayla Philippi, Aundria Vargas, Lily McKown, Chessa Novotny, Erin O'Tool, and Taylor Kelley each scoring a goal this season.
Goalie Brayden Paul has collected 19 saves in the 4 games played this season. Paul has started and played all 360 minutes.
The Vikings lead the series 8-0, and the last time the two teams met the Vikings won 4-1.
