Soccer Hosts Last Doubleheader Weekend

The Vikings carry a six-game win streak into the weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's soccer team completes its four-game homestand this weekend when it plays the Northern State Wolves on Friday at 4 p.m. and the MSU Moorhead Dragons on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Games
The Vikings carry a six-game win streak into their matchup with Northern State on Friday. While the Vikings battle the Wolves, MSU Moorhead matches up against Wayne State in Wayne, Nebraska. Augustana will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday when they match up with MSU Moorhead. The Vikings will recognize eight seniors: Grace Bender, Katie Ortgies, Peyton Stenzel, Claire Dahm, Jensen Froehlich, Grace Behm, Morgan Moe, Erin Schneiderhan

The Wolves
The Wolves come into their matchup with Augustana at 3-7-0 after falling to Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State last weekend. Northern State is 1-6 in NSIC play and 1-3 on the road. Senior Stephany Estrada leads the Wolves with two goals and five points on the season. Junior goalkeeper Morgan Bury has started every game in goal for the Wolves and has posted three shutouts. 

The Dragons
The Dragons come into their matchup with Augustana at 3-3-4 after battling Minnesota Duluth to a 1-1 tie on Sunday. MSU Moorhead is 1-3-3 in NSIC play and 1-1-3 on the road. Freshman Mckenzie Ickert leads the Dragons with three goals and eight points on the season. Goalkeepers Kayleigh Sedlacek and Kennedy Rodgers have combined to post four shutouts this season.  

The Vikings
Augustana is 11-8-1 in the all-time series with Northern State and 17-1 in the all-time series with MSU Moorhead. The Vikings are on an eight-game win streak against Northern State and have won 11 of the last 13 matchups with the Wolves. After losing their first meeting with MSU Moorhead in 2001, the Vikings have won 17 games in a row against the Dragons. Overall, they have outscored MSU Moorhead 50-12 and have posted shutouts in seven of their last eight matches. 

The Vikings sit atop the NSIC standings and are one of three undefeated teams in conference play. They have won six matches in a row, shutout seven matches in a row, and are unbeaten in their last nine contests. 

It has been 737:01 minutes of game time since the Vikings last gave up a goal. That took place on Sept. 20 in the 11th minute of a match against Southwest Minnesota State University. For their fantastic defensive efforts, sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner and senior defender Morgan Moe were named NSIC Players of the Week. 

The Vikings are ranked near the top in nearly every single statistical category in the NSIC. They are third in goals scored (20), tied for third in goals allowed (8), second in assists (21), second in shots (198), second in shots on goal (110), fourth in saves (64), and second in save percentage (.889). 

One Last Thing
If the Vikings sweep this weekend, head coach Brandon Barkus will win his 150th career game at Augustana on Sunday. He currently has a .546 winning percentage at Augustana and has coached 55 All-Conference selections, 27 NSIC Players of the Week, 11 All-Central Region players, and one All-American.
