Behm’s Overtime Goal Completes Undefeated Weekend For Vikings Soccer

The Vikings have not allowed a goal in five games

ST. Cloud, Minn. -- The Augustana women's soccer team (7-1-1) capped off an undefeated weekend when it outlasted the Huskies of St. Cloud State (3-3-3) 1-0 on Sunday in overtime.

Senior forward Grace Behm was the hero on Sunday as she scored the game-winning goal just eight minutes into the overtime period. Behm corralled a pass and quickly sent a left-foot shot to the top right corner of the net to win the game for the Vikings.

"I am so proud of Grace Behm," head coach Brandon Barkus said. "Her determination, coachability, and willingness to do what needs to get done is awesome."

Freshman Bailey McCullough and sophomore Alexis Legg were credited with the assists on Behm's goal.

"I thought that we had some freshmen play great today," Barkus said. "Bailey McCullough and Kelly Kleekamp played really great today."

While the Vikings have been generating enough offense to win games, the theme for the Vikings this season has been defense and Sunday was no exception. Sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner recorded her sixth shutout of the season and fifth in a row against the Huskies. Pueschner faced 17 shots and made seven saves. The sophomore has not allowed a goal since the 11th minute of the Vikings contest against SMSU on Sept. 20.

Senior Morgan Moe and sophomore Savannah Ellender were the backbones of the Vikings defense on Sunday. The two tallied all 98 minutes played and Moe has not sat out one minute this season.

"Morgan, Savannah, and Claudia put together another fantastic defensive performance for us," Barkus said. "This was really an Augie win. We scrapped and fought and sometimes it's not the best, but we fight and we are bought in. It was a result of a total team determination. Even if they played a little bit better, we fought and came out with the win."
