Soccer Begins Four-Game Homestand This Weekend

The Vikings have not lost in over a month

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's soccer team (7-1-1) begins a four-game homestand this weekend, starting with the Winona State Warriors (4-5-0) on Friday at 4 p.m. and Upper Iowa Peacocks (2-4-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Games
The next four matches serve as Augustana's longest stretch of home games this season. The Vikings play six of their last nine games at Morstad Field, including a three-game homestand to finish off the regular season. While the Vikings play their match with Winona State on Friday, Upper Iowa will be taking on the Wildcats of Wayne State in Wayne, Nebraska.

The Warriors
The Warriors come into their matchup with Augustana at 4-5-0 after a 2-0 conference weekend that featured wins against Northern State and MSU Moorhead. Winona State is 3-3 in NSIC play and 2-3 on the road. Junior Georgette Topalis leads the Warriors with four goals on the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Yanel Ortiz has started every game in goal for the Warriors and has posted two shutouts.

The Peacocks
The Peacocks come into their matchup with Augustana at 2-4-3 after defeating Northern State 2-1 last Sunday. Upper Iowa is 2-2-2 in NSIC play and 1-1 on the road. Sophomore Haley Ramberg leads the Peacocks with three goals on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie
Rudrud has started every game in goal for the Peacocks and has posted two shutouts.

The Vikings
Augustana is 6-12 in the all-time series with Winona State and 4-5-3 in the all-time series with Upper Iowa. The Vikings have won six of the last seven matchups with Winona State and eliminated them from the NSIC Tournament last season. Augustana battled Upper Iowa to a 1-1 draw last season and has not conceded a loss to the Peacocks since the 2013 season.

The winning formula thus far for the Vikings has been a lock-down defense combined with timely offensive plays and both were showcased last weekend.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner made all 17 save opportunities last weekend en route to shutouts against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. She was promptly named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week for her efforts. Pueschner has now posted five shutouts in a row and six on the season.

Senior Morgan Moe, fresh off of garnering NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors, contributed on both sides of the ball. She has played every minute for the Vikings this season and scored the game-winning goal with just under 10 minutes against Minnesota Duluth last Friday.

Offensively, senior forward Grace Behm leads the Vikings in game-winning goals with three, including her game-winner against St. Cloud State last Sunday. The senior also leads the Vikings in shots (31), shots on goal (19), and is tied for first in goals (4).

Overall, the Vikings are scoring an average of 1.67 goals per game while allowing only .89 goals per game. The numbers certainly speak to their style of winning low-scoring affairs.

One Last Thing
Heading into the fourth weekend of NSIC games, Augustana is one of three teams without a conference loss. Bemidji State and Concordia-St. Paul complete the list.
