Augustana Readies For Rematch With Minnesota State In NSIC Tournament Semifinal

11/14/2019 3:36:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's soccer team (15-3-1) meets a familiar foe in Minnesota State (15-3-1) on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the NSIC Tournament semifinal match.

The Game
Augustana earned its 15th win of the season on Wednesday at home in the first round of the NSIC Tournament against Southwest Minnesota State. While the Vikings battled at Morstad Field, Minnesota State defeated UMary 6-5 in penalty kicks to advance to the semifinal match. The No. 1 seeded Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears took care of business at home against Wayne State and earned hosting rights throughout the rest of the tournament. This will be just the second time that Augustana and Minnesota State have matched up at a neutral site.

The Mavericks
The Mavericks come into their matchup with Augustana winners of 10 of their last 11 matches. Minnesota State went 12-3-0 in NSIC play and 1-0-0 at neutral sites during the regular season. Sophomore Jenny Vetter leads the Mavericks with 16 goals, seven assists and 39 points on the season. Senior goalkeeper Alexa Rabune has made 58 saves and posted six shutouts.

The Vikings
The Vikings are 2-26-0 in the all-time series with the Mavericks with Minnesota State defeating Augustana 2-1 earlier this season in Mankato, Minnesota. In that match, the Vikings fell behind early as Minnesota State netted two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. Grace Behm cut the Maverick lead in half in the 21st minute, but the Vikings would be held off the scoreboard in the second half and Minnesota State took home the win.

The Vikings have been clicking offensively towards the end of the season. In its last three games, Augustana has scored eight goals and tallied six assists for a total of 22 points. Ten of those points came against SMSU on Wednesday as six different Vikings found the scoresheet. It was the third time this season that Augustana has scored double digit points in a game.

Forwards Grace Behm and Morgan Keristead have led the charge for the Vikings of late. Behm, a senior, overtook the team lead in goals on Wednesday with her eighth of the season. Keirstead, a sophomore, scored the game-winner on Wednesday for her fourth goal in three games.

Sophomore forward Alexis Legg notched an assist against SMSU on Wednesday to give her ten points on the season. With Legg, the Vikings now have six different players with double-digit point totals on the season. Augustana only had two players reach double figures last year. The Vikings have notched more goals, assists and points in 2019 than they had in all of 2018 while playing two less games.

Player To Watch
Senior forwards Clarie Dahm and Grace Behm have been neck-and-neck in goals scored all season long. The duo had been tied at four, five, six and seven, before Behm took the lead on Wednesday with her eighth score. Each time one has scored to take over the team lead, the other has tied them shortly thereafter. Look for Dahm to have a great net-front presence on Friday and tie Behm for the team lead in goals.

One Last Thing
The Vikings are 3-1 in the NSIC Tournament semifinal match in the last four seasons and advanced to the championship game from 2015-2017.
