ST. PAUL, MINN. -- Closing out their conference road schedule, the Augustana women's basketball took Concordia-St. Paul down to the wire, but the Vikings could not finish in a 69-61 loss. The Vikings drop to 20-9 (12-8 NSIC) while the Golden Bears move to 19-6 (15-5 NSIC).
Leading the Vikings was
Lynsey Prosser as she dropped 21 points, followed by
Danni Honner who dropped 10 and Selland chipped in 10 as well.
Opening play in St. Paul, the Augustana women's basketball team traded points with the Golden Bears, until CSP pulled ahead by two. Senior
Shelby Selland started out putting points on the board for Augustana off an assist from
Vishe' Rabb. The senior hit another right after, marking the Vikings fourth point of the game. After the first ten minutes of play the Vikings were 4-of-4 from the charity stripe while the Golden Bears did not make a trip to the line.
The second quarter of play was showcased with 15 points from Augustana while holding Concordia to just 10. The Vikings also pushed the pace on turnovers, scoring 11 points off four turnovers from the Golden Bears.
At the intermission coach Krauth had his team ahead 29-26
Abby Hora had four steals in the first, nearly matching her career-high of six.
At the four minute mark in the third quarter,
Lynsey Prosser picked the ball from the Golden Bears and then went down for an easy layup. The Vikings pulled within one point at the end of the third off a Prosser jumper. The senior netted her 15th point with the bucket.
Trailing by seven to start the fourth, the last ten minutes of action the Vikings trailed by as much as nine points, but on a Selland layup she pulled the Vikings within seven. A Prosser jumper brought the Vikings to within three points at the closing off the game, but the Golden Bears had the answer all night.
The Vikings had a push in the fourth quarter that pulled them within four, but it wouldn't be enough on the road.
Overall, the Vikings shot 19-of-63 (30.2%) Â from the field. Concordia shot 21-of-59 (35.6%) from the floor. On the boards the Vikings grabbed 39, the Golden Bears corralled 47. Selland corralled six board to lead Augustana, while Camry Hay grabbed five.
Anna Schmitt led CSP with 26 points.
The Vikings now return to the Elmen Center Friday and Saturday to take on Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. The tip on Friday is for 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays is set for 3:30 p.m.
