CLERMONT, Fla. -- Following a monumental performance on day one of the spring games, the No. 22 Augustana softball team pushed their win streak to three games in game one on Saturday, but fell in game two. The Viking started the day with a 9-7 win over Northwood (MI), and closed the evening falling 7-6 to the University of Texas-Tyler. Augustana is now 8-4 on the year.
Game One:
The Northwood Timberwolves came out swinging in the first inning, picking up three runs on one hit. However, the Vikings had the quick answer as they matched with three runs in the second.
Amanda Dickmeyer tripled to center, scoring
Maggie Dunnett,
Taylor Bross and
Shannon Petersen.
The back and forth battled continued in the third, as Northwood plated another run to take lead. In the third, Shannon Peterson connected on an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.Â
The fifth frame proved to be one of the most important for the Vikings. Trailing 6-4, Peterson stepped into the dish and blasted a three-run homerun to left center. The moonshot marked her second in as many games, and her 4th RBI of the day.
The Timberwolves were able to tie the game up again in the 6th, but in the top of the 7th it was
Maggie Kadrlik coming up clutch. A double to left scored
Ashley Mickschl for the game-winning run.Â
Olivia Wolters came into the game in the third and struck out six batters while allowing just one run. The win moves her to 3-0 on the season.Â
Game Two:
The Vikings fell 7-6 to the University of Texas Tyler in a hard-fought comeback bid that fell just short. UT-Tyler led 7-0 through five innings before Augustana put up two runs in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh to pull the game to 7-6.Â
Kadrlik had the lone extra-base hit for the Vikings in game two, roping an RBI double in the sixth.Â
Augustana returns to action early on Sunday with an 8:30 AM central game time against Urbana, followed by an 10:45 AM game with Indiana University of Pennsylvania.Â
