SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's golf team will look to open up their Spring season in sunny California. The Vikings host the Augustana Spring Fling in Palm Desert, Calif. which starts on Thursday and finishes on Friday.
The Spring Fling will be played at the Classic Club and will feature 10 teams. The par 72, 5,901-yard course will see Saint Martin, Hawaii Hilo, Point Loma, Biola, Central Oklahoma, Colorado Christian, Dixie State, California State Los Angeles, Northeastern and Augustana compete at the two-day event. The University of Indianapolis won the the Spring Fling last year with a score of +30 (606) and Jaime Jacob of CSU San Marcos captured the individual title with a score of +4 (148).
Augustana had a successful Fall season with four top-two finishes in six tournaments along with placing 15th at the 2018 Central Fall Preview with a score of +35 (323) and ninth at the DII National Preview with a score of +89 (665).
Earlier this year, Augustana was picked to finish first at the Northern Sun Championships receiving all 11 first-place votes and tallied 121 points to rank ahead of Minnesota State, which tallied 111 points and the other first-place vote. Junior Hannah Hankinson was also voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Preseason Women's Golfer of the Year. The Vikings have won the last nine NSIC titles and 10 in the last 11 years.
