ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Augustana men's and women's tennis teams picked up a pair of wins on their second day of competition at the UTSA National Campus. The men got back into the win column with a 5-2 win over Belhaven while the women continued their hot streak defeating a tough Charleston team 5-2.
Women
The Vikings (13-0, 9-0 NSIC) gave Charleston their first loss of the season after a tightly contested match throughout. Augustana picked up two doubles win to earn the doubles point and four singles matches on Tuesday night.
Starting the night off in doubles action, Kornelia Staniszewska teamed up with Laura Arce Vieyra to pick up a 6-0 win over Kristine Gegeshidze and Katie Swann. In No. 3 Doubles Grace Goble and Annika Teske defeated Mathilde Simon and Meggan William 6-3.
Over in singles play, the Vikings got things going with Staniszewska who picked up her 29th straight win with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Gegeshidze. Arce Vieyra continued her undefeated season with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 win over Swann.
Rounding out singles action on the night was Taylor Jackson and Anca Rusu. Jackson battled in No. 3 Singles to come out with the 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 victory over Elise Edwards and Rusu fought hard to take the 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Regina Saucedo.
Overall head coach Marc Kurtz was very pleased in how well they played against a very talented team.
"Wow, what a match today. Charleston is a strong team and they consistently make it into the Atlantic regional," Kurtz said. "Line 2-6 all went into third set match tiebreakers and we were able to come out with the 5-2 victory. It was a total team win today by the ladies and we need to rest up and get ready for another tough match tomorrow."
Men
The Viking men (5-6) got back into the win column with a 5-2 win over Belhaven on Tuesday morning. Augustana swept the doubles play to earn the doubles point and picked up four-of-the-six singles matches to come away with the win.
Logan Barr and Joe Sawatzke teamed up to take down Joan Soler and Mauricio Gonzalez 6-4 while Eden Mrozek and Frank Kelly took down Tracy Hilaire and Grant Matherne 6-1.
Rounding out doubles action was North Knewtson and Austin VanDerWeide in No. 3 Doubles. The duo took care of Yves Ikuno and Zachery Presnall to grab the 6-3 win.
In singles play, the Vikings got a win from Barr in No. 1 Singles defeating Soler 6-2, 2-0 and Sawatzke took down Hilaire 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 Singles action. Finishing up action Tuesday morning was Knewtson and Kelly. Knewtson took down Ikuno in No. 5 Singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win while Kelly took care of business with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 6 Singles.
Overall, Kurtz thought the team came together to get a win against a tough team in Belhaven.
"It was nice to get a win today," Kurtz said. "We are playing a tough schedule over this spring break and every match is difficult so it felt good to pull out the team win."

The women finish up play in Florida against Embry Riddle at 4 p.m. The men have two days left in Florida with matches against Embry Riddle at 4 p.m. and end their trip on Thursday when they face Millersville at 11 a.m.
