No. 20 Vikings Split Mid-Week Doubleheader With Minnesota Crookston

Augustana is now 23-10 overall and 16-3 NSIC

CROOKSTON, Minn. -- The Augustana baseball team (23-10, 16-3 NSIC) finished a mid-week series with Minnesota Crookston (17-12, 10-5 NSIC) on Wednesday, dropping game one 2-1 in extra innings and winning 3-0 in game two.

Game One

In game one, the Vikings and Golden Eagles found themselves in a pitcher's duel early on with Evan Furst on the mound for Augustana. Minnesota Crookston took the first lead of the game in the second inning on an RBI single that was followed up with a double play that ended the half inning.

The score held at 1-0 till the seventh inning when Augustana got on the board as they capitalized on a Minnesota Crookston throwing error after a drawn walk by Michael Svozil and a single by Ryan Nickel.

The Golden Eagles and Vikings entered extra innings tied at 1-1, and Minnesota Crookston came out on top as the winning run crossed on a hit-by-pitch.

Game Two

In the final game of the series, Augustana took the first lead of the game in the third inning after taking advantage of an error that scored Riley Johnson, who reached base on a double to left center.

The score held at 1-0 till the top of the fifth, when the Vikings put up two runs on a two-RBI triple to left field by Svozil that scored Mitch Stroh and Johnson.

Tanner Brown took the hill for Augustana in game two and pitched 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts while allowing just three hits for the game. Ryan Helgeson continued pitching strong, recording his second save in the past two series.

The shutout is the first for the Vikings since a 4-0 win against Drury on March 1.
