No. 11 Vikings Walk-off in Game One, Run Past Minot State for Series Sweep

Augustana is back home on Tuesday vs. Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Playing back at Bowden Field on Monday afternoon, No. 11 Augustana softball collected a pair of wins against visiting Minot State. Augustana got a walk-off three-run home run from Abbie Lund for a 14-5 game-one win and used a strong pitching performance from Amber Elliott for a 5-1 game-two win. Augustana is now 36-7 (14-2 NSIC), and Minot State is now 21-14 (10-8 NSIC).

Moments that mattered:
  • Samantha Eisenreich had a career-performance in game one. The senior had a career-high four hits and finished with three RBI
  • Ashley Mickschl pitched four innings to collect her NSIC-best 17th win. Mickschl also hit her first home run of the season in game one and finished with six RBI in the two games. 
  • Abbie Lund blasted the first home run of her career, a walk-off three-run shot to win game one. 
  • Amber Elliott pitched six frames with seven strikeouts for the win in game two.

Game one:

Ashley Mickschl started game one and came out strong, but once again it was the Viking offense that set the tone in the bottom of the first. After Mary Pardo reached second following a single, Kendall Cornick drove in the games first run on an RBI single. 

Following a run a fielding error, Mickschl helped her own cause with a three-run home run in 1st. Her first home run of the year made it a 5-0 game. 

The Viking offense added to the advantage in the 2nd as senior Shannon Petersen crushed a two-run double to the gap in right center. 

Although the Beavers plated four runs in the third, Mickschl settled in to pitch four innings for the Vikings. She exited with the lead and collected her NSIC-best 17th win of the year.  

Moving to the 4th, Samantha Eisenreich stepped in with two runners on and connected an on a two-run double to left center. The Vikings took a 9-5 lead heading into the 6th. Eisenreich hit an RBI double an inning later, and ended the day with a career-high four hits and three RBI.

With two runners on in the 6th, Abbie Lund launched a three-run shot over the fence in right field. Her first career home run proved to be the walk-off winner. 

Game two:

Amber Elliott took the circle in game two and once again racked up the strikeouts. She finished with seven on the day and now has 15 over her last two outings. 

The Vikings started the scoring in the second frame. After Maggie Kadrlik reached third, freshman Mary Pardo picked up her 23rd RBI of the season with a line drive to third base. 

Mickschl continued to show off the bat in the third, lacing a triple down the right-field line. Two runs came in to score and it was quickly 3-0. Kendall Cornick also collected an RBI on a single up the middle, and Mickschl's final RBI came in the 6th to make it 5-1. 

Augustana now closes their 12-game homestand on Tuesday at Bowden field with a pair against the University of Sioux Falls. First pitch is set for 3 p.m at Bowden Field.
