Shannon Petersen Named NSIC Player of the Week

The Viking senior slugged 1.368 with 12 RBI and three home runs

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Following a terrific week from the plate, Augustana Softball senior Shannon Petersen is named the NSIC Player of the week. It's the second-career weekly conference honor for Petersen and the first this season.

Petersen was outstanding from the dish over the last six games as the No. 17 Vikings went 6-0 and improved to 42-7 overall. The senior finished the six-game stretch with a .684 batting average (13-of-19), a 1.368 slugging percentage, and a .700 on-base percentage. Her on-base plus slugging (OPS) is a remarkable 2.068.

Playing and starting at catcher, Petersen had at least one RBI in each of the last six games and had four games with multiple RBI. Over the six wins, Petersen drove in 12 runs and is now tied for 1st in the NSIC with 52 RBI. 

Petersen's 13 hits included four doubles and three home runs over the past six games. She had two home runs in a pair of wins over Northern State and is now tied for second in the NSIC with 11 home runs. 

Over the last week, Augustana pushed their win streak 10 games as Petersen had a team-high 26 total bases and struck out just once in 19 at-bats. From behind the plate as a catch, the Minnesota native finished with 25 total putouts and 0 errors. 

Petersen and the Vikings return to action on Wednesday, April 25 as they welcome in Upper Iowa for 3 p.m. A senior day celebration, the doubleheader marks the final home series of the regular season for Augustana.
