No. 14 Viking Runs Win Streak to 14 Games with UMC Sweep

Kadrlik goes 7-7 with three home runs and six RBI

CROOKSTON, Minn. -- Stepping on the diamond to start their final road trip of the season, the No. 14 Augustana softball team ran past Minnesota Crookston in a two game sweep. The Vikings controlled game one for a 10-0 win, and finished Friday with a 9-3 win in game two.

Moments that mattered:

-Ashley Mickschl collected her 22nd win of the year with a complete-game, eight streikout performance. Mickschl was also 2-4 from the plate with a home run and three RBI.
-Maggie Kadrlik continued to find success at the plate, going 4-4 with 2 RBI. Over the last six games, Kadrlik is 15-19 (.789) with 14 RBI and 5 home runs.
-Amber Elliott improved to 15-3 on the season pitching four innings with six strikeouts in game two

Game one:

Both sides started quiet in game one with no score after the first two frames. The Augustana offense came to life in the third, starting with Kara McDougall who walked then stole second. Moments later, Ashley Mickschl made it 1-0 as she drove in her 41st run of the season with an RBI single.

Now with Mickschl on base, the middle of the Vikings order - Kendall Cornick, Shannon Petersen, and Maggie Kadrlik - followed with three straight hits. Petersen and Kadrlik both picked up the RBI and by the end of the third Augustana led 3-0.

Mickschl moved into the fourth inning with just two hits allowed and three strikeouts.

The Vikings added on two more runs in the 4th, thanks to Mary Pardo. The phenomenal freshman crushed a two-run home run to right center, making it 5-0 Viking lead. Pardo now has 12 RBI and six home runs in the last six games. Overall, Pardo is second on the team with 13 home runs this season.

Augustana added on two more runs in the 5th, including an RBI single from Samantha Eisenreich. Now leading 7-0, Mickschl blasted a two-run shot to center field, and Kadrlik put the game on ice with a solo home run. Mickschl pitched the bottom of the 6th for her 18th complete game this year.

Game two:

Minnesota Crookston scored the first run of game two, but Augustana went right back to work in the second. Kadrlik crushed a solo home to left center, and a few batter later Maggie Dunnett went yard with solo shot. After two complete, Augustana led 2-1.

The Vikings continued to slug the ball in the third as Pardo led the inning off with a solo shot to right center. Kadrlik followed up the home run with an RBI single to put the Vikings up 4-1. The Golden Eagles put up one run in the bottom of the third, but went on a scoring drought till the seventh inning.

Pardo continued her powerful streak in the fourth inning, as she knocked a two-run homer to center field to give the Vikings a 6-2 lead. In the fifth inning, Kadrlik bombed another solo home run before a Pardo RBI single through the left side.

Cornick finished off the Augustana scoring with an RBI single through the middle in the seventh inning. Elliott earned the win for the Vikings as she pitched four complete innings and struck out six.

Augustana now closes the regular season on Saturday in Bemidji, Minnesota. First pitch vs. the Beavers is set for 12 p.m. at the BSU Softball field.
