SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Tied 13-13 at halftime, the Augustana defense outscored the offense 25-13 in the second half to secure a 38-26 victory over the Vikings offense on a beautiful day for the spring game at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.

The defense started out with a T.J. Liggett tackle for loss to get the first points on the board 1-0. The offense would fire back with consecutive first downs before having to punt on fourth down.

In the second quarter, Luis Guarita nailed a 24-yard field goal just before time expired in the first half to make the score 13-13 at the break.

In the third quarter, redshirt-freshman Seth Baker recovered a bad snap for a six-yard scoop and score for the game's first touchdown. Baker would end up with three tackles on the day.

After trailing for most of the game, the offense ramped up the tempo and scored the game's only offensive touchdown on a 31-yard strike from Zach Masoli to Anthony Tews. The touchdown capped off an eight-play drive that started on their own 41-yard line. Masoli went 4-of-6 for 55 yards and one touchdown on the day.

With the game winding down, the offensive dug into their back of tricks and senior quarterback Bobby Calmeyn completed a pass to Logan Uttecht who then flipped it to Riley Zuhde who then pitched it to Shahan Ameen for a 20-yard gain on fourth down. The offense was rolling after that picking up four first downs total during the final drive that started at their 30-yard line.

On fourth down with the final seconds ticking away, Calmeyn hurled a pass to the back corner of the endzone for Jason Seitz, however the pass was well defended and fell incomplete which ended the game.

For the offense, Kyle Saddler played a few series in the first half and racked up 74 yards on 7-of-12 passing on the day. David Addo led the rushing attack with 10 carries for 40 yards on the day that also featured Dominic Novak in the backfield. Novak finished with 9 carries for 19 yards.

On defense, redshirt-freshman Jack Wilson had four tackles, 1.5 sacks and a solo tackle for loss to lead the defense. The Viking defense had seven tackles for loss, five sacks and two turnovers, one that resulted in the game's first touchdown.

With the Spring season in the books, the Vikings now turn their attention to summer workouts before reporting for camp in the Fall. Augustana kicks off their 2019 season on Sept. 7 at home against Upper Iowa.
