SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head football coach Jerry Olszewski has named Mike Bond as the Vikings' defensive backs coach and Paddy Devlin as the wide receivers coach. Both enter the fold with strong NSIC ties as Devlin joins from Southwest Minnesota State and Bond comes from Concordia-St. Paul.

"I am very excited to announce the addition of our newest additions on our coaching staff," said Olszewski. "Coach Bond brings knowledge of our systems, our culture, proven experience in the defensive backfield, understanding of our conference and region, demonstrated success in intentional relationships with student-athletes, and established recruiting experience. Coach Devlin has been a decorated player in our conference. He has done many support roles in his career, has incredible work-ethic, very good knowledge of WR play and skill development, as well as a great grasp of scheme design and implementation.

"Both men will be tremendous fits in our team culture and will thrive in player development as athletes and young men."

Bond was with the Golden Bears for nine seasons as a defensive backs coach, assistant recruiting coordinator and defensive passing game coordinator. Last season, his group touted a pair of defenders that ranked in the top-15 in the NSIC for pass deflections and two of his recruits were named All-NSIC Second Team.

He also spent the summer of 2025 with the Kansas City Chiefs as their Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellow. With the Chiefs, Bond was included in full-staff and defensive meetings where they focused on install schedules, teaching progressions and scheme introductions. With the defense, he broke down practice film and charted turnovers and pass deflections while tracking rep counts and participation periods. He also organized the scour offensive looks and passing concept for defensive preparation.

He has two years of prep football coaching experience, spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons on the staff at Menomonie High School.

Bond's background transcends the football field, having earned a master of science degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2017 with an emphasis in AODA and child/adolescence counseling. He earned a bachelor's degree in vocational rehabilitation with an emphasis in mental health and recreational rehabilitation from UW-Stout, as well.

While earning his degree at UW-Stout, Bond earned three varsity letters for the football program where he was a standout defensive back with 11 career pass breakups, three interceptions and 58 total tackles (4.0 for loss, 1.0 sack).

Bond holds a bachelor and masters of science from Wisconsin-Stout.

Devlin spent four seasons as an assistant coach at SMSU. There, he served as wide receivers coach and film coordinator while helping as an assistant passing game coordinator. He led receiver meetings, film breakdowns and analysis and assisted in gameplanning.

In 2025, Devlin mentored wide receiver Colin Maher to All-NSIC second team honors after ranking sixth in the NSIC in receiving yards and ninth in receptions. His group also excelled in the classroom as Tryg Auten earned CSC Academic All-District honors and four Mustang receivers were named Academic All-NSIC.

Devlin was a four-year member of the SMSU football team from 2018-21 after transferring from South Dakota State. He caught 18 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown during his senior season in 2021.

He has his bachelor of science from Southwest Minnesota State University.
