CLEVELAND, Ohio -- In the final standings of the 2018-19 Division II Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup, Augustana Athletics finished 13th out of nearly 270 schools, including the top spot among the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The Vikings finished with a total 546 points, which marks the university's highest result in three years and their eighth top-20 finish in the past nine years.

The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup awards points based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. Overall in Division II, you must count the following four sports – men's basketball, baseball, women's basketball, and volleyball – along with the next highest 11 (max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender.

Augustana Director of Athletics Josh Morton is thrilled with the result and overall standing.

"Our Learfield/IMG College Directors Cup finish shows a tremendous commitment to excellence from each one of our head coaches and student-athletes," Morton said. "We are proud of each program and look forward to continued success this fall."

The 2018-19 athletics season was highlighted by a pair of national championships, one individual and one team. During the indoor track and field season this winter, student-athlete Olivia Montez Brown recorded 3,915 points for the women's Penthalon championship. The Junior's accomplishment marked the third ever indoor women's track and field individual championship at Augustana.

During the spring season, the spotlight shined on Augustana Softball. A relentless program, the Vikings won the NSIC Tournament title, knocked off No. 2 Winona State in regionals, No. 1 Central Oklahoma in super regionals, and went 5-1 at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship to claim the national title. It was the second-ever NCAA Championship for Vikings softball, with the other season being 1991.

Augustana also had phenomenal finishes this year in baseball, who advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals and finished the year ranked No. 11 in the national poll. Women's Tennis surpassed 100 consecutive conference wins and returned to the NCAA tournament, and both men and women's track and field programs combined to total more than 68 directors' cup points. Augustana wrestling also had two All-Americans and finished 13th in the nation as a program.

Augustana's men and women's basketball also had successful seasons. The men earned their third (co)-conference south division title in the past five years, and the Viking women won 22 games this year.

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) took home the NCAA Division II Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup with 1004.00 points.
