Augustana Soccer Gears Up for First Road Contest

The Vikings play their last nonconference game of the season

9/13/2019 9:00:00 AM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- After going 1-1 last weekend, the Augustana women's soccer team (1-1-0) matches up against Northwest Missouri State (0-1-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Maryville, Missouri.

The Game
The Vikings first road game of 2019 will also be their third-consecutive game against MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) opponents. After Northwest Missouri, the Vikings will face 15 consecutive NSIC opponents before the NSIC tournament in November.

The Bearcats
Northwest Missouri comes into their matchup with Augustana at 0-1-1, after a 2-2 tie with Drury last Friday and a 5-2 loss to Southwest Baptist on Sunday. Freshman Kaitlyn Case leads the Bearcats in goals after scoring in each of her first two collegiate games.

The Vikings
Augustana is 1-3 in the all-time series with the Bearcats, however, the two squads have not met in the regular season since 2006. The Bearcats won the last meeting 1-0 and are 2-0 at home against the Vikings. The lone Viking win was a 2-0 shutout at home on Oct. 2, 2005.

Player to Watch
Freshman Sylvia Fehr has had an impressive start to her college career, scoring goals in each of her first two collegiate games.  She has already scored a game-winner, leads the Vikings in shots, and looks to make it three games in a row with a goal on Sunday.

One Last Thing
Head coach Brandon Barkus racked up his 140th career victory at Augustana on Friday when the Vikings beat the Fort Hays State Tigers 2-0. With 16 games left, the Vikings have plenty of opportunities to elevate his career win total to 150 before the end of the season.
