Augustana Volleyball Defeats MSU Moorhead 3-1

Maddy Guetter logs career-high 20 kills

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Coming off a loss to No. 8 Northern State to open up NSIC play, the Augustana volleyball team bounced back to defeat MSU Moorhead 3-1 (14-25,25-18,25-14,25-15) on Saturday to split the weekend 1-1.

The Vikings came out slow in the first set, falling 25-16.

The second set for the Vikings went a lot better as they jumped out to an 8-7 lead after a Grace Haberland soft touch over for a kill. Augustana (8-2, 1-1 NSIC) picked up momentum late in the set thanks to back-to-back kills from Avery Thorson and Maddy Guetter to force a Dragons timeout with the score 19-13.

MSUM (5-4, 0-2 NSIC) clawed back to cut the Augie lead to 21-18 but the Vikings scored the final four points of the set to take the 25-18 set two win.

Augustana took over in the final two sets to take the match. In the third set, the Vikings took a 14-8 lead off a Kate Reimann kill and an attack error by the Dragons made the score 23-13. Augie would take the third set 25-14 after hitting .500 in set three.

The fourth and final set was similar to the third as Augie held a 21-15 after an Erika Bute ace. The Vikings had a .370 hitting percentage in the fourth to take the set and the match 25-15.

Guetter had a career-high match with 20 kills to finish with a .472 hitting percentage. Haberland and Payton Rosendahl both finished with eight kills while Haberland corralled a team-high 18 digs. Thorson finished with 42 assists and six digs.

Overall as a team, the Vikings finished with 57 kills, eight aces and 49 assists. Defensively Augie had 64 digs and five blocks.
