FAYETTE, Iowa – Despite a season-high 31 points from freshman Isaac Fink, the Augustana men's basketball fell 110-100 in overtime at Upper Iowa Friday night.
 
Augustana (11-4, 6-3 NSIC) controlled nearly the entire first half and held a lead as large as 11 points with 4:57 remaining but Upper Iowa closed the half on a 10-2 run over the final 1:50 as the two teams entered halftime knotted at 42.
 
The Peacocks (8-7, 5-4 NSIC) continued their momentum out of the break and built a lead of seven points at 58-51 with 14:22 remaining in the game. However, it was Augustana's turn to flip the momentum and used a 23-9 run to not only regain the lead but pushed it to seven points at 74-67 with nearly eight minutes on the clock.
 
Upper Iowa clawed its way back, although unable to take a lead. Every time UIU got within a single possession, Augustana had an answer. As time was ticking down, Upper Iowa was forced to foul to extend the game. With 14 seconds on the clock, Fink went to the free-throw line, making both attempts to push Vikings' lead to three points at 92-89.
 
On the ensuing UIU possession, the Peacocks quickly swung the ball around the 3-point line. Lucas Duax received a pass and got a shot off before the buzzer, watching it go through the rim to force overtime.
 
After Dylan LeBrun scored the opening basket of the extra period, the Vikings' offense stalled as Upper Iowa was able to pull away for the 110-100 victory.
 
Fink's 31 points came in his third-career start while sinking five shots from deep. Junior Tyler Riemersma matched a career-high of 18 rebounds while tallying his fifth double-double of the season as he also scored 23 points. Senior Beau Keeve tallied a career-high 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting while sophomore Trevor Hanson added 10 points. Sophomore Matt Todd dished a game-high five assists.
 
The Vikings made 39 of a school-record 85 shot attempts for 45.9 percent. However, Augustana was just 10-of-35 from 3-point range including 0-7 during overtime.
 
Joe Smoldt led Upper Iowa with 29 points while going a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. The Peacocks shot 56.7 percent from deep on 17-of-30 shot attempts while shooting 48.5 percent from the field for the game.
 
Augustana looks to snap its mini two-game skid at Winona State Saturday. Opening tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
