Zilverberg Sinks Career-High 17 Points as Women’s Basketball Wins Fifth Straight

ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second-straight game, the Augustana women's basketball team turned a halftime deficit into a win. This time it was an 86-73 win at Concordia-St. Paul Friday night as five Vikings scored in double digits. Senior McKenzee Zilverberg tallied a career-high 17 points to lead AU.

The win is the fifth-straight for the Vikings, who improve to 11-6 overall and 7-6 in NSIC action. The Golden Bears fall to 9-10 on the season and 6-7 in the loop.

Augustana trailed 38-32 at halftime after the Golden Bears ended the second quarter on a 13-4 run. After falling behind by eight points to open the third quarter, the Vikings used a 12-3 run to grab their first lead of the game at 48-47. It was a team effort in the run with five players scoring a point during the stretch.

CSP briefly regained the lead at 49-48 but it was all Vikings the remainder of the quarter as Augustana closed on a 9-2 run to conclude the third quarter leading 57-51. Augustana outscored the Golden Bears 25-13 in the quarter, and keeping with the team theme, no player tallied more than five which was by freshman Lauren Sees.

The fourth quarter was again all Augustana as the lead grew to 15 points with just under a minute remaining in the game at 86-71. A late layup from CSP made the final score 86-73.

Zilverberg sank her career-best 17 points by hitting five field goals and going a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. She was joined in double-digit scoring by senior Hana Beyer with 13 points and junior Hannah Mitby 12 points. Freshmen Aislinn Duffy and Sees each tallied 10 points. Beyer, who was a very efficient 6-of-7 from the field, tallied seven rebounds while Mitby matched a career-best with six assists.

The Vikings shot 50.8 percent for the game on 31-of-61 shot attempts while holding the Golden Bears to 42.2 percent on 27-of-64 shot attempts. Concordia-St. Paul was led by Danielle Schaub with 21 points while the Golden Bears also placed five in double-figure scoring.

The Vikings look to continue their hot-streak at Minnesota State on Saturday. Tip-off from Mankato, Minnesota, is slated for 3:30 p.m.
