Olszewski Names Sipple as Augustana’s Defensive Coordinator

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head football coach Jerry Olszewski has named Mark Sipple as the Vikings' defensive coordinator. Sipple joins Augustana after spending the past six years in the same position at St. Cloud State.
 
"I am thrilled to welcome Coach Sipple and his family to my staff," Olszewski said. "Coach brings over 20 years of success as a coordinator along with other valuable experiences that will benefit our staff and program. He is a proven leader and recruiter with strong Midwest coaching ties and a working knowledge of our conference opponents.
 
"I believe Coach Sipple is a great fit for our staff and AU. I look forward to watching his relationships develop with our players, staff and campus community."
 
Sipple led the defensive unit at St. Cloud State after spending 11 seasons as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Wisconsin - Eau Claire. In the 2019 season, the Huskies led the NSIC with nine tackles for loss per game, a mark that ranked ninth in the nation.
 
At Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Sipple coached a pair of D3football.com All-America selections while helping the Blugolds to an appearance in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
 
Sipple also has coaching stops at Wisconsin Lutheran (1998-03) where he helped start the football program and North Dakota (1996-98). A graduate of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Sipple earned a degree in secondary math education while earning a minor in psychology in 1996. He garnered a master's degree in educational administration from North Dakota in 1996.
 
Mark and his wife, Sara, are the parents to Lydia and Isaak.
