ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Augustana women's tennis team opened its 2021 season Saturday topping Missouri Western 6-1 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
The Vikings, who are now on a 14-match win streak dating back to a perfect 13-0 2020 dual season, are now 1-0 on the young season. Missouri Western falls to 0-1.
The Vikings earned the doubles' point by sweeping the matches. Making their collegiate debuts,
Valeriya Monko and
Florentia Hadjigeorgiou combined for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles while
Laura Arce Vieyra and
Grace Goble claimed No. 2 doubles 6-1. At No. 3 doubles,
Aleksandra Kistanova and
Emily Granson prevailed 6-4.
In singles play, Monko played the top singles flight to a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Also making her collegiate debut was
Margarita Chouliara, and she won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Also claiming victories were
Laura Arce Vieyra,
Aleksandra Kistanova and
Emily Granson.
Augustana remains in St. Joseph on Sunday for an 11 a.m. dual with Southwest Baptist.
