ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – In a neutral-site match in St. Joseph, Missouri, the Augustana women's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 15 Southwest Baptist. It marked the first loss for the Vikings since May 13, 2019.
The Vikings fall to 1-1 on the season while Southwest Baptist improves to 1-0.
Augustana claimed the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles by
Valeriya Monko and
Florentia Hadjigeorgiou. The other victory in doubles came by default with
Aleksandra Kistanova and
Emily Granson slated to play.
The Vikings were victorious at No. 1 and No. 6 singles. Monko, a freshman, moved to 2-0 on the season at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Granson claimed the victory at No. 6 by default.
Augustana begins NSIC action Feb. 13 and 14 in Winona, Minnesota. The Vikings face Winona State on the 13
th and Upper Iowa on the 14
th.
