MINOT, N.D. — The Augustana volleyball team continued its sweep-streak as the Vikings bested Minot State in three sets (25-18, 25-10, 25-12) in Minot, North Dakota, on Friday night.
The Vikings move to 9-5 on the season, and 4-2 within the loop. The Beavers fall to 0-12 and 0-6 in the NSIC.
After the Beavers came within one point (7-6) in the first set, the Vikings began to roll scoring six unanswered points with kills from senior Avery Thorson and junior Maddy Guetter to give Augustana momentum at 13-6.
Minot would score a point to attemptively slow down the Vikings, but the next point went back in favor of AU, and so did the next three points to put Augustana in a commanding position of the first set, at 17-7.
The Beavers would bring the deficit down to eight before Augustana's offensive would come in plenty again, this time for five points, three of which were kills by senior Peyton Rosendahl to make it 23-11, Vikings.
Minot State began to find some offense but not before a final kill by Thorson which gave the Vikings the first set at 25-18.
Augustana claimed the second set 25-10, but due to technical difficulties, stats are not available.
With a sweep on the line, the Beavers started the third set with desperation, scoring the first three points.
Down 4-3, the Vikings put on a clinic scoring 10-straight points to quiet the Beavers and claim a convincing lead at 12-4.
Midway through the set Augustana found another surge with kills from sophomore Callie Hohenhaus and Guetter, followed by a service ace by junior Erika Bute and a solo block by freshman Lucy Bartee to give the Vikings a 20-10 lead.
The Beavers had scored two points before Augustana stole the show scoring the next five points to claim the set, and the match at 25-12.
Augustana returns to action traveling to Bismarck, North Dakota, Saturday to face UMary slated for a 2 p.m. start.
