Viking Volleyball Sails Past Marauders in 3-0 Win

BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Augustana volleyball team converted the weekend sweep with a win over UMary in Bismarck, North Dakota, on Saturday afternoon winning 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-13). The Vikings are on a four game win-streak, all via the sweep.

Augustana improves to 10-5 on the season and 5-2 within the conference while UMary falls to 3-13 and 0-7 in the loop.

The Marauders hung with the Vikings early in the first set before Augustana began to click offensively.

A kill by senior Payton Rosendahl gave the Vikings a three-point lead at 9-6. From that point, Augustana would score eight of the next ten points, rounded out by a service ace to give the Vikings a nine-point cushion, at 17-8.

The Marauders would score the next point but Augustana would find a second convincing run, this time with freshman Jolie Stecher and junior Maddy Guetter accumulating kills, to make it 22-9 in favor of the Vikings.

UMary would score a few points but the match was decided shortly after with a kill by Stecher giving AU set one, 25-12.

The Marauders second set proved to be their best, although it was still not enough to take the set from the Vikings.

Augustana had a three point lead (22-19) but UMary scored two consecutive to keep the match close.

AU took the momentum with a kill by sophomore Callie Hohenhaus, granting the Vikings match point, (24-22) and two points later AU was one set win away from converting its second sweep of the weekend.

Similar to the first set, the third set was decided when a mid-set run by the Vikings separated them from the Marauders. A six-point run with kills from Reimann, Hohenhaus and Guetter pushed Augustana to a 16-7 advantage.

The Vikings would score the last three points of the set with Reimann accounting for two kills in that span to grant Augustana the third set, (25-13) and the match.

The Vikings were led by Rosendahl and Guetter both garnering 11 kills, Thorson accumulated 30 assists and Erika Bute garnered 13 digs.

The Marauders were led by Emily Torborg with five kills, Kameron Selvig with 10 assists and Nehkyah Ellis garnered nine digs.
