Augustana Volleyball Falls Short of No. 7 Concordia-St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augustana volleyball team fell short of No. 7 ranked Concordia-St. Paul, falling in four sets (25-14, 25-21, 28-26, 28-26) in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Saturday.

Augustana (12-7, 7-4 NSIC) had a slow start losing the first two sets to Concordia-St. Paul (17-3, 11-0 NSIC) 25-14 and 25-21.

The third set was hard fought for the Vikings, as Augustana stopped the Golden Bears three times at match point, before two kills from junior Maddy Guetter and an error from CSP gave Augustana the third set, 28-26.

Augustana was in position to go to a fifth set for the third-straight match, having control of the fourth set after kills from junior Kate Reimann and senior Payton Rosendahl put the Vikings in the driver's seat at 23-20.

The Vikings and Golden bears would then trade points, but CSP would ultimately claim the match after winning the fourth set 28-26.

The Vikings were led by Guetter with 15 kills, Avery Thorson garnering 45 assists and Erika Bute raking in 25 digs.

Guetter and Thorson both had double-doubles on the day. Along with Guetter's 15 kills, she also garnered 12 digs. Thorson was three kills shy of her second triple-double of the season. On top of her 45 assists, Thorson had 11 digs and seven kills.

The Golden Bears were led by Emma Schmidt with 20 kills, Teagan Starkey accumulating 29 assists and Tori Hanson having 26 digs.
