ROME, Ga. – Augustana's women's tennis student-athletes Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova wrapped up action over the weekend at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, in doubles action.
 
"I'm really proud of Laura and Gabbie as they played well this tournament against the best teams in the country," head coach Marc Kurtz said. This was a great experience for those two and they represented Augustana well on the national stage."
 
The duo opened play against North Georgia on Thursday, falling 6-1, 6-1. On Friday, the doubles teammates fell 6-3, 6-2 to UIndy. On Saturday, Arce Vieyra and Jancikova battled with the doubles team from Indiana (PA) but fell 6-2, 7-6 (3).
 
"We played good Tennis on Saturday, but just couldn't convert in a few important points in the match," Kurtz added. "We had our chances in the second set of the match, but came up a bit short and lost in a tiebreaker."
 
The duo were the first Vikings to qualify for the prestigious event since 2015 and were the only student-athletes from the NSIC to qualify for the event.
