SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Augustana soccer defeated Upper Iowa in its last regular-season home match with a final score of 2-0 and captured its eighth-straight win. The Vikings will end the regular season unbeaten at Morstad Field.
The Vikings move to 10-1-2 in NSIC play and 11-3-2 overall. The visiting Peacocks fall to 7-8 overall and 5-8 in NSIC conference play.
Sophomore Grace Douglas scored the first goal of the game after a solid pass from junior Sylvia Fehr to give the Vikings the lead late in the second half. Douglas used her left foot to tap in the ball after Fehr's pass flew past the goalkeeper. The goal came in the 84th minute of play and is marked as the game-winner.
Senior Alexis Legg solidified the victory with a goal just three minutes later off of a pass from Morgan Keirstead. The goal was scored in a similar fashion after Keirstead was able to slide through the defense and attract the goalkeeper, leaving the net wide open for a shot by Legg.
Fehr's assist on the Douglas goal adds to her season total of 13. Fehr leads the Vikings and the nation in assists.
Augustana tallied 19 shots in 90 minutes of play. Ten of the shots were on target. Upper Iowa recorded ten shots on the sheet with only four being shots on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Barkus held down the backfield and helped Augustana to its ninth shutout of the season.
